Mathison Hall – University of Calgary

Western Electrical Ma n a g eme n t was engaged by EllisDon as the electrical contractor to develop a space for the Haskyane School of Business at the University of Calgary. This two-phase project required upgrades to Scurfield Hall (Phase I) and the construction of Mathison Hall (Phase II). During Phase I, WEM upgraded the electrical systems in Scurfield Hall by replacing the fire alarm system and reworking the main electrical system. Electrical upgrades to the main system required the addition of an HV transformer and a main-tie-main setup to the main switchboard. Electrical upgrades to Scurfield Hall will enable significantly greater flexibility for servicing, repairs and maintenance.

Phase II of the project will result in the completion of Mathison Hall by late 2022. WEM’s scope requires the installation of electrical systems throughout the 1,000-square-meter building. Together they will power a dozen new classrooms, a 300-seat event centre, a graduate student lounge and multiple break-out rooms designed to facilitate collaboration and experiential learning. Once complete, Scurfield Hall and Mathison Hall will be linked by a walkway and provide an educational hub for approximately 4,000 students.
